Gran Turismo Movie’s First Trailer Introduces Us To Its Wild True Story

The first full trailer for the live action Gran Turismo film is here, giving us a first look at the real story that saw a player of the game become an actual race car driver.

Everything you might have heard about the Gran Turismo film makes it sound less and less real, with cast members like Orlando Bloom and David Harbour, and District 9 director Neil Blomkamp attached making it all sound not quite plausible. Yet the first trailer is here, proving that it is real, and is even coming out this August. This is also the same trailer shown off at Cinemacon, now available for everyone to take a look at.

If you haven’t heard of him before, this film will introduce you to the real world story of professional British racing driver Jann Mardenborough. The film will follow Mardenborough from when he first took part in the Gran Turismo Academy in 2011, a competition that saw him beat 90,000 contestants to take part in Dubai 24 Hour with Nissan. Of course, Mardenborough didn’t actually have any real-world experience, but even still he managed to place third in his class during the endurance event.

The film stars Archie Madekwe (Midsommar) as Mardenborough, David Harbour (Stranger Things) as his trainer Jack Salter, Orlando Bloom (The Lord of the Rings) as Danny Moore–who’s based on GT Academy Founder Darren Cox–Djimon Housou (Shazam) as Mardenborough’s father Steve Mardenborough, and former member of the Spice Girls Geri Halliwell as Mardenborough’s mother.

Gran Turismo is releasing in theaters August 11.
