Actor Thomas Hayden Church, who played Sandman in the Sam Raimi movie Spider-Man 3 and came back again in Spider-Man: No Way Home, has said he believes Raimi wants to make another Spider-Man film with Tobey Maguire.
Speaking to Comicbook, Church said, “I think Sam is gonna do another Spider-Man with Tobey [Maguire].” He went on to say the movie studio, Sony Pictures, had an option for Church to come back as Sandman in a fourth Spider-Man film from Raimi, but it never happened.
“They had an option on me to come back. So if it happens, that would be fantastic. I’m getting a little old,” he said.
Raimi directed 2002’s Spider-Man, 2004’s Spider-Man 2, and 2007’s Spider-Man 3. In 2022, while promoting his MCU film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Raimi said he was hopeful to be asked to come back to direct another Spider-Man film. Whether or not it ever happens, though, remains to be seen.
As for Church, he said, “There’s been some rumors that they might ask me to do another Spider-Man, and I’d do it tomorrow.” As mentioned, Church came back to play Sandman again in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which featured a number of other characters from the Raimi films as well, led by Maguire coming back to play a different multiverse version of Spider-Man.
As for Maguire, he’s said he would jump at the chance to come back once again to play Spider-Man again.
Tom Holland played Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Sony Pictures is said to be working on a fourth Spider-Man movie with Holland, but the actor has also talked about stepping aside.
“A part of me that wants to walk away with my head held high and pass the baton to the next lucky kid that gets to bring this character to life,” Holland said.
