John Wick 4 Expected To Have Best Start At Box Office In Franchise History

John Wick: Chapter 4 is expected to make a lot of money during its opening weekend later this month, so much so that it is on track to set a new franchise record.

Chapter 4, which releases March 24, is tracking to earn between $60 million-$70 million for its first weekend in the US, according to Deadline. That would be the strongest start in the history of the series. For comparison, 2014’s original John Wick earned $14.4 million in its first weekend, while Chapter 2 made $30.4 million to start. Chapter 3 continued the upward trend, banking $56.8 million over its first stateside weekend, and Chapter 4 is expected to have an even bigger start.

As Deadline reminds us, all box office tracking estimates are not as solid as they used to be, due to the impact of the pandemic and how it’s made all predictions less than reliable.

The John Wick series is extending beyond the main series, with a spin-off movie called Ballerina in the works with Ana de Armas set to star. A prequel TV show, The Continental, is also in production. A John Wick AAA video game is on the way as well.

John Wick: Chapter 4 brings back Keanu Reeves as the title character, with Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, and Ian McShane reprising their characters from the earlier movies. The movie also stars Bill Skarsgard, Clancy Brown, and Donnie Yen. Yen recently discussed how he pushed back against Asian stereotypes in John Wick 4 and the Star Wars movie Rogue One.

Chad Stahelski, who directed the three previous John Wick movies, directs the fourth movie.
