House Of The Dragon Season 2 Gets Release Window, As Another GoT Spinoff Begins Shooting Soon

HBO has announced that House of the Dragon Season 2 will debut in “early summer” 2024. Studio boss Casey Bloys confirmed the release window during a media event on Thursday where the network also showed footage of Season 2. However, press were forbidden from talking about what they saw, according to Variety.

Additionally, Bloys announced that another Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will begin filming in Spring 2024. This date could change, though, pending the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

House of the Dragon, meanwhile, did not suspend filming during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes because its actors were part of a different labor union. The scripts were completed prior to the beginning of filming. Showrunner Ryan Condal served as a producer only, and was on set.

House of the Dragon premiered in August 2022 and was a big success for HBO. The company has said Season 2 will be “extraordinary” and that it will have a more traditional storytelling setup. It’s also been confirmed that Season 2 will have eight episodes compared to 10 for Season 1.

HBO has also talked about a Jon Snow Game of Thrones spin-off, but it remains to be seen if that show is moving ahead or not.

Bloys also used the event to admit to and apologize for ordering staff to create fake accounts to criticize the critics of HBO’s shows.

Another high-profile HBO show set for a second season is The Last of Us. However, filming remains paused due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Season 2 was set for release in 2025, but that was prior to the strike.
