The release of Dead Space Remake last month has been warmly received by the original game’s co-creator, Glen Schofield, who thanked EA Motive for remaking the game with great care.

In a LinkedIn article posted by his daughter Nicole–who served as an environment artist on Dead Space spiritual successor The Callisto Protocol–Schofield left a note for EA Motive. “To all of you who worked on the original, thank you for your contributions to an amazing game,” Schofield wrote. “It has withstood the test of time. And to Motive, thank you for your care in remaking the game faithfully. Congratulations.”

Schofield is currently the CEO of Striking Distance Studios, which released The Callisto Protocol to mixed reviews last year. In comparison, Dead Space Remake has been hailed as not only a faithful recreation of the original sci-fi horror game, but a new standard for remakes thanks to its modernized controls, overhauled visuals, and clever tweaks to the source material.

“Remaking Dead Space in 2023 may not feel especially necessary, but EA Motive has crafted a game that manages to improve upon its excellent progenitor in a variety of ways–even if only marginally so,” Richard Wakeling wrote in GameSpot’s Dead Space Remake review.

As for the future of the series, EA Motive has hinted at Dead Space 2 getting the remake treatment. Beyond that, Dead Space Remake senior producer Phil Ducharme and creative director Roman Campos-Oriola recently spoke about how they are interested in exploring new ideas for the series, saying that the timing is now right for Dead Space’s grand return.
