For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Welcome to Night Vale is a dramatized podcast created by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor, who also co-wrote all three standalone books. The show is set in the fictional town of Night Vale, where strange cryptids, UFO sightings, spirit apparitions, and other forms of cosmic strangeness are common. Each episode plays out like a radio drama, with a cast of characters played by recognizable voices like Mara Wilson, Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day, and more. The series debuted in 2012 and has 12 seasons, each one telling its own story arc, and is often ranked as one of the best podcast series of all time.
While it’s a big series to get into, the books Night Vale: A Novel, It Devours!, and The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives in Your Hom all work as standalone tales from the expanded Night Vale universe you can read even if you aren’t caught up on every storyline.
