Horror creators Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy (The Haunting Of Hill House, Midnight Mass) have signed an exclusive multiyear overall series deal with Amazon Studios through their production company, Intrepid Pictures. Under the new deal, the duo will develop and produce projects which will now exclusively stream on Prime Video.

Flanagan and Macy made names for themselves through their Haunting anthology series: The Haunting of Hill House, a season based on Shirley Jackson’s novel of the same name, and The Haunting of Bly Manor, a season based on the horror novella The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. Flanagan also created and directed the Netflix horror mini-series Midnight Mass (2021), as well as the teen horror series The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher, the latter of which hits Netflix next year.

“Mike and Trevor are remarkable at telling immersive, suspenseful stories that masterfully keep audiences engaged from start to finish,” said Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios (via Deadline). “We are excited to welcome them to Amazon Studios and are looking forward to our global customers experiencing their genre-bending creativity.”

Flanagan and Macy gave their own statement about their excitement about joining Amazon and praised the studio. “Their commitment to engaging in groundbreaking series and content aligns with the ethos of what we have built at Intrepid,” they said. “We are looking forward to working with the entire Amazon team as we bring our brand of genre productions to the service and audiences around the globe.”

In July 2021, it was announced that Flanagan would adapt the comic book series Something Is Killing the Children for Netflix, but as was confirmed this past October, the project is no more. The Fall of the House of Usher will be an eight-episode limited series for Netflix that will be based on the short story of the same name and other works by Edgar Allan Poe. Flanagan will direct four episodes of the series, with the other four being helmed by his longtime cinematographer Michael Fimognari.
