Jack Black is joining Jason Momoa in the upcoming Minecraft movie, according to Deadline. The announcement of Black joining the cast comes just before production is set to begin in New Zealand.
The movie also stars Emma Myers, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Danielle Brooks.
The Minecraft movie is set for release in April 2025, and it will be directed by Jared Hess. He previously directed Black in Nacho Libre and is also known for the movies Napoleon Dynamite and Gentlemen Broncos.
Black has a history with video game movies, as he voiced the villain Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide.
The Minecraft movie has been in the works for years. Before this, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney was making the Minecraft movie before it fell apart in 2018.
It remains to be seen what the plot for the Minecraft movie may be. The game series is known for its open-ended, sandbox nature where players can do and be anything. As such, it’ll be interesting to see how the writers devise a story for the film.
