The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been in constant flux for the past several years, first with COVID upsetting the entire release calendar, then with Spider-Man: No Way holding onto its scheduled date and releasing out of order, then with the whole Jonathan Majors real-world situation forcing Marvel Studios to abandon its entire planned big picture and replace it with Robert Downey Jr again. So in 2024, Marvel has put things on pause a bit, with only one movie–Deadpool & Wolverine–on the calendar for the whole year.
That means that the MCU is effectively on pause, since Deadpool & Wolverine doesn’t follow up on any existing MCU story threads, and this year’s two new streaming series, Echo and Agatha All Along, likewise seem to be side stories (though who really knows with Agatha). Even so, that’s some pressure, having to carry weight for the biggest movie franchise ever during a low period.
